EDT Learning Teams With Nobel Prize Economist to Launch Web-Based Investment Portfolio Management Course by London Business School
- Prestigious Relationship Enhances EDT Learning's Offerings -
LOS ANGELES, October 25, 2000 - EDT Learning today announced it has teamed with London Business School and Nobel Prize-winning economist Harry Markowitz to create and launch a co-branded, online economics course for Global 3000 corporations.
The course is based on Markowitz's "Portfolio Selection" model, which was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1990 and revolutionized modern investment theory and practice by creating the first-ever mathematical template to calculate investment risk and return. This model, also known as the "Markowitz Model," was created in the 1950s and has since become the de facto assessment standard for most managers of large institutional portfolios worldwide.
Working in tandem with London Business School Professors Zeger Degraeve and Bert De Reyck, EDT Learning created a 10-hour course that teaches the fundamentals of minimizing investment risk and maximizing return.
The course, titled "The Decision Science of Portfolio Diversification," puts students through interactive exercises to define the statistical values needed to assess a portfolio investment and includes a video introduction from the professors and Markowitz.
EDT Learning was honored to partner with an economist of the stature of Harry Markowitz and the faculty of an institution as renowned as London Business School to design and deliver such cutting-edge content. Through this partnership the company is providing global access to the theories and insights from one of the top economists of the past 50 years.
"We partnered with EDT Learning six months ago because we saw that the future of education demanded integrating proven teaching methods with an established online solutions partner, and we now are seeing just how much of an impact we can create together," said Dean John Quelch of London Business School. "For the first time in history, our students can use the Internet to study and put into practice the theories of Harry Markowitz. This is what the future of e-learning is about."
The "Decision Science of Portfolio Diversification" is the latest in a series of courses EDT Learning has developed in conjunction with London Business School.
In April EDT Learning signed an agreement with London Business School to create additional online solutions, including one focusing on effective leadership and another on the fundamentals of e-business.
